Project Description
For the movie project we split up into groups and thought of a topic for our video. There was a rubric that had different sections like lighting, angles, and other filming techniques. We first sketched out our initial thoughts on a storyboard. The next couple days we focused on the lighting portion of the rubric by shooting silhouette scenes and shooting outside when we saw it was stormy (which was something we needed for the rubric). Then we focused on different camera angles throughout the scenes we shot. We used our gained knowledge of stop-motion animation to make credits too. Overall we used what we learned in Digital Arts and followed the rubric to try and make our video a success.

Reflection Questions
Why do artists produce preliminary plans?
Artists produce preliminary plans for many reasons. They do it so they can look at it over the course of creating their art. You can forget what you wanted to initially do or what you wanted to put into your piece so if you write it down that won’t happen. It also makes it easier on yourself in the long run because when you’re just sketching an initial design, messing up doesn’t matter. When you’re actually making something and you mess up, it could ruin your piece.
How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication?
I think art is used as a vehicle for communication because there are so many ways to interpret a piece of art. For example there are whole college courses studying Shakespeare and every person in the classroom has their own opinion of what he means in his plays.
How is art used in everyday life?
Art is used in everyday life to make things nicer to look at, add atmosphere to certain areas, and to give places a certain mood. It can also be used to communicate something.
What problem-solving skills are employed in making works of art?
You have to be able to start over after something goes wrong, plan ahead, and improvise when something doesn’t go your way. You also have to be able to look at your piece in new ways when you get stuck.
What is old, and what is new in any work of art?
Anything you use in an art piece can be either new or old. Even if you use something that has been around for a very long time, you can still make it new by using it in a new way.

My cartoon gets my message across to my intended audience because it shows how whales are kept in very small pools compared to where they used to live and how Sea World lies about how long whales live in captivity and in the wild. Information can be shared artistically by putting the info and meaning into your piece of art like a political comic. Creating art is different from viewing art because when you create it, the piece is personal to you and has meaning to you. When you view art you could misinterpret what the artist wanted the piece to mean.
Image Trace Tool
Self Portrait Project
I made this picture for the self portrait project because it has two things that I love in it: music and Photoshop. I really enjoy messing around and doing my own thing with both of these hobbies so I thought it would be perfect to incorporate them both into my portrait. I think a job doing something with Photoshop would be awesome and entertaining. The money would just be a bonus. I get better at playing piano and making my Photoshop pictures the more I practice and I enjoy honing my skills. I want people to see me as a person who doesn’t give up when things go wrong. I had to restart this project and rethink what I was going to do multiple times but I persevered and the end result turned out well.
Teacher Creature Project
In this project, we had to take a teacher of our choice and Photoshop them into a new environment and make it look as convincing as possible. The hardest part of my project was making the eyebrows look like they weren’t just cut and pasted onto the face. I fixed this problem by warping and feathering them and then getting approval from my peers before I moved on. My favorite part of this project was getting to choose what you wanted your project to look like. There weren’t very many restrictions on the project which I appreciated. I found that I have learned more about Photoshop than I thought recently, but I still have a lot to discover and master.

Photoshop Tutorials
Before
I used the warp tool to make the teeth look sharp
I used the pen tool to select the eye and then changed the hue
I used layer masks and the brush tool to make the pixels floating away
I used the text tool to make the face into text
I used the clone stamp tool, the clone patch tool, the smudge tool, and the sharpen tool to take the braces off the teeth.

Landscape Project
In this mini project I learned about background, middleground and foreground. In the background, most objects blend together, it’s usually blurred, and the colors are dampened. In the middleground, you can see some individual objects but like the background, some objects blend together to make one solid color. Objects in the foreground are in focus, large in proportion to the back and middleground, vibrant, and usually contrast with the background. I found the blur tool, and quick selection/magic wand to be the most useful tools in this project because they helped me make objects look like they were supposed to be there and copy and paste the exact object that I wanted. Knowing the difference between a PSD (photoshop document) and a JPEG was very important in this project. If you save your work as a JPEG, all the layers blend together and when you open it in Photoshop next time, you won’t be able to manipulate anything. That is why it’s always good to save your work as a PSD and as a JPEG.
Name Project
In this project we went outside and found objects that creatively spelled our names when put together and took pictures of them. We then put all the pictures into Photoshop, put them all together, and added a background. It was important to take good pictures to begin with because you can't really fix poorly taken pictures in Photoshop. It is also important to save large pictures for your backgrounds because if the image is small, it will be very pixelated if you try to make it bigger.
