chiaroscuro
In this project we took photos containing a lot of contrast and attempted to replicate them using charcoal. I found this difficult because I had never before tried to replicate an image with so much attention to value. I found that drawing the objects in the photo was much easier than going back in and making them look realistic using charcoal, white pencils, erasers, and other constraints. If I were to continue working on this piece, I would add more weight to my lines, make the background value more consistent, and make the table look more realistic. Overall, I enjoyed this project and I think it gave me a good sense of shading and light sources in drawings.
Stipple Drawing
This project was created using pencil for the initial sketch and then shading and coloring by dotting with a pen. I had a lot of fun during this project even though it was sometimes challenging and very time consuming. I think this project helped me enhance my shading and skills and also allowed me to get a better feel for drawing what I see and not what I think I see. Overall, I'm proud of the final product and I would definitely try it again with a different photo.
